Isla Blanca, the best hideaway spot near Cancun

isla blanca

Isla Blanca, in Quintana Roo, is a little hideaway spot just north of Cancun that you most probably haven’t heard of. Here’s what you need to know about this beautiful, off the radar paradise.

Isla where?

Isla Blanca is barely an island. At its most narrow end, the water from the Caribbean flows freely to Chacmochuc Lagoon. Along its 12 miles of coastline, it hides some of the most stunning views in the entire region.

Beaches out of a dream

In contrast to other beaches in the area, the ones at Isla Blanca have experienced minimal human intervention. The intense white in the sand gives the island its name and the water bears that classic, Caribbean blue, making for some dreamy landscapes.

Amazing wildlife

If you’re into animals, you’ll love a trip to Isla Blanca. Birds like pelicans, frigates, flamingos and toucans; mammals like monkeys and possums; reptiles like iguanas, turtles and snakes. These and many other species can be found here.

How to get to Isla Blanca

Isla Blanca is about 18 miles north of Cancun. To get there by car, you must take Bonampak boulevard, heading towards Punta Sam. This very street will take you all the way to Isla Blanca, where you’ll find many places to park your car in.

At the corner of Lopez Portillo and Tulum streets in Cancun, you’ll find buses leaving to Isla Blanca, three times a day.

Remember that City Express Cancun is a great place to rest when you’re exploring the area. We’re located next to the boardwalk and the Plaza Las Americas mall, right at the north entrance to the hotel zone.
