So, we’ve compiled a list of 5 of the safest and most beautiful beaches to choose from for your next Mexico trip!
Mahahual was once a small fishing village far from the Riviera Maya. It is still a much quieter destination than the towns close to Cancun but it is now a popular cruise ship stop. You can enjoy watching the arrival and departure of the cruise ships and the town come to life for the day. In the evening everything goes relatively quiet, making it a good place to disconnect. It’s also great for snorkelling, diving and fishing and it’s not too far from the lagoon of Bacalar and a number of Mayan sites. One thing’s for sure, you will fall in love with the blue waters of this cute Caribbean town.
One of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, and even the world, Playa Balandra is located close to the town of La Paz. The calm and serene bay of Balandra is one of the real highlights of the region with stunning blue ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. On the beach itself, enjoy peace and quiet with the background noise of calm waves rolling up to the shore. This is a safe beach in terms of location and also because it’s shallow waters make it a very family friendly option. Walk from one side of the bay to other with your toes in the warm waters!
One of the country’s few beachside Magic Towns, Mazunte is on the Southwest coast of Mexico where the relaxing setting combines golden sand and turquoise blue of the Pacific Ocean with the backdrop of the Oaxaca countryside. There’s not much to do here and that is part of its charm. The small town is a huddle of buildings and you will find yoga studios, dance classes, cute cafes and places to read your book! It’s perfect for switching off and doing very little. Many come for hiking. The best place to view the sunrise is Punta Cometa and there are many coves to explore!
Not far from the popular town of Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita is actually one of the more active beaches to visit along this coast and in Banderas Bay, but it is also one of the safest. Sayulita has a little bit of everything; beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, a lovely golden beach, cliffs and a laid back town. The people are welcoming and the town offers a hipster-surfer vibe with many surfers enjoying the waters. It’s great for beginners as the waves are soft and easy in the morning before becoming more challenging for the pros who come out in the late afternoon and become silhouettes again the sunset. Many other activities here include diving, hiking and horseback riding.
Another one of Oaxaca’s safest beaches, Puerto Escondido is a small town with a mixture of Mexicans, foreign residents and travellers, many of which own a surfboard. In Spanish, the name of this town is the hidden port which comes from the legend of young woman who was kidnapped by pirates. The story goes that she escaped and fled to this bay. The pirates named it the hidden bay after the girl who was hiding from them. Nowadays there’s not a pirate in site and people come for the waves and the seafood!
