Barrancas del Cobre, Chihuahua
Chihuahua’s Copper Canyon is one of the most spectacular places in Mexico and one of the world’s largest canyons. If you’re traveling on the El Chepe make a stop at Barrancas del Cobre where you’ll find an Adventure Park with endless activities. Here, you can test your bravery on the longest, highest and fastest zip line in the world! You can also take a cable car ride, try the other zip lines and suspension bridges over the canyon, abseil or rock climb the Via Ferrata, go horseback riding and hiking through the park or take in the incredible views and Piedra Volada.
Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco
On the West coast of Mexico is the seaside town of Puerto Vallarta. This is an adventurer’s paradise as there are many adventure tours offered here. For example, for a dose of adrenaline you can fly over the Pacific sea in water jet bikes, go on a canopy adventure in the nearby mountains and cross the longest suspension bridge for vehicles in the world. More available activities in this area include snorkelling, river rafting, horseback riding, skydiving, scuba diving and whale watching!
Lacandon Jungle, Chiapas
Deep in the southern, tropical state of Chiapas, near the border with Guatemala, there is an area of rainforest called the Lacandon Jungle. This is a true escape from everyday life. This jungle is home to many beautiful rivers, lakes and waterfalls as well as some important Mayan archeological sites such as Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan, which can only be reached by taking a canoe down the river.
The rainforest is home to many Maya communities with strong cultures and traditions. Many local people will offer you the opportunity to take a guided walk or trek through the incredible surroundings where you will see tropical birds, howler monkeys, beautiful butterflies and maybe even a crocodile!
Cascada Cola de Caballo, Nuevo Leon
Located in Villa de Santiago, a town in the state of Nuevo Leon, there is a beautiful waterfall called the Cascada Cola de Caballo, the Horsetail Falls. Take a guided walk through the forest and reach one of many viewpoints of this spectacular waterfall with its unique rock formations.
Close by, there is the Hacienda Cola de Caballo where they offer many exhilarating activities which you can do in the forests which surround the waterfall. This includes bungee-jumping and zip lining and even jumping from a platform high up in the trees with the waterfalls as your incredible backdrop.
And finally, for a water adventure like no other, head to the rapids in the state of Veracruz. Here there are opportunities to go white water rafting through some of Mexico’s most exciting rivers, and canyons. Tackle class 2 or class 4 rapids and speed through some marvellous scenery in a state relatively unknown to adventure tourism. This is a truly memorable adventure!
